The bridge adheres to the tradition of space framework bridges characteristic of the site. The structural system is an irregular steel truss with members optimized in orientation and cross section, while the top and bottom chord run the length of the bridge. The bridge is to be assembled using partial, prefabricated sections, simplifying fabrication and installation. The Elastomer-abutments are only stressed vertically, therefore allowing the concrete foundation to be minimal. The truss is tensioning over the river, allowing for a column-free span, maintaining a clear floodplain and avoiding the collection of debris.
FACADE DESIGN OF THE PARKING GARAGE
The open parking garage is connected aesthetically to the water through an indirectly lit green facade. The stone wall, cultivated with evergreens, partially perforated and reinforced by a grate system, is a green pendant at the scale of the historic town. The openings are calibrated based on the grid of the city, and the various wall areas are adjusted in their spatial depths in analogy to the historic facades. The nature of the promenade as a park to the historic town is preserved without interfering with the functionality of the parking garage. The air and noise emitted from the parking garage are filtered by the green facade, thus improving the local climate of the river bank. Irrigation is self-managed due to the proximity to the river. The character of the surrounding area is imprinted upon the green slope of the facade.
